What We Did Crazy in Bali – An Unforgettable Travel Story from The Indian Travel Rush

In case there is a place that understands how to make you wild and carefree it is Bali. This Indonesian paradise is known to make every plan invert itself, in the best possible manner, through its beaches, temples and parties. Thus, this is our mad Bali travel experience with unplanned fun, local tips and a couple of moments where you will say, did we just do that?

The Preliminary of Insanity: Lost at Uluwatu.

We set out just the way all other camera batteries did, all charged up, schedule set, excitement in the heart. But Bali had other plans. During the first day itself, when we were on our way to Uluwatu Temple, the GPS of our scooter broke down. We did not find the temple, but came to a deserted cliff where not a man was visible, but instead just the roar of the crashing waves in the distance.

And you know what? It was magical.

What an unintentional excursion that was, one of the most beautiful sunset viewpoints that we had ever encountered. Hours we sat there and the surfers were turned into little dots. That is when we understood that at times the right path to follow is to lose our way in Bali and then the adventure starts.

The Midnight Dip in Seminyak

Since the cliff fiasco, we vowed ourselves never to deviate. That lasted less than a day.

We arrived in Seminyak Beach during the night and we had only a peaceful walk. But the moon upon the sea made it to be resistless. Several minutes later, off went the shoes, and we were running directly into the waves with all our clothes on!

It was absolute freedom that midnight swim in the warm sea of Bali. No schedule. No crowd. Laughter just laughing in the dark. The beach guards must have believed that we were crazy but at such a moment we seemed to be the masters of the world.

The Day We Chased Waterfalls

Bali, paradise as it is, must have waterfalls in its heart. The following day we took a bike on rent and settled on visiting one of the waterfalls. That happened to be five visits. In Tegen ungan and Nung nung, each place was beautiful. We walked in mud, we had to walk up to death in these stairs and we were drenched in several occasions.

When we finally arrived at the final waterfall we were drained, but the view of the cascading waterfall gave it all meaning. We threw in and laughed at how the one hour plan turned out to be a day long adventure. Bali can make you addicted just like that.

Monkey Trouble in Ubud

There can never be a Bali tale that lacks monkey mischief. As I visited Ubud, Sacred Monkey Forest, one of the small men chose my sunglasses as his new lottery prize. He seized them directly off my head before I could do anything with them, and climbed a tree.

What ensued was all out anarchy a game of bargaining with bananas and a crowd of tourists cheering me on as I was in a film. At length the monkey dropped them (having eaten half a banana). Lesson we  learnt was  not underestimate the monkeys of Bali!

Wild evenings and Morning Piano.

Nights in Bali were the epitome of mad vigor. Canggu and Seminyak beach clubs brought fire dancers, neon lights, and music to enlighten the evenings and made us stop thinking of time. The entire evening was spent dancing until sunrise and the following morning, we were at Tegalalang Rice Terraces where we soaked in silence and tranquility.

It is Bali one on the one hand and it is a party paradise the other hand and then it turns out to be an island of peace

The Final Thought!

In retrospect, all of the things we did in Bali that were crazy, getting lost, waterfalls, and moonlight swimming, became the highlight of our trip. It was not a matter of visiting all the spots of the tourism. It was a matter of letting the island surprise us.

When you are strategizing your vacation in Bali, keep this in mind because that is when you make the best memories when you no longer plan it out. Just sink with a flow and allow Bali to surprise you.

Since there are occasions when the most unorthodox things you undertake are those that you have forever remembered.
